Things Girls Should Consider Before Moving to a PG

Moving into a new city and searching for a girls’ PG accommodation? Or are you already staying in one, but looking for a better nearby PG for ladies? Well, whatever your current living situation might be, we’re here to show you greener pastures. The kind where your safety is on top priority and all of your living hassles are taken care of like a pro. Now, please bookmark this page. And note down the things you should consider before moving into a PG that offers accommodation for women.

What are the Amenities on Offer?

The first thing you should consider are the amenities that are offered by the PG. Is there air-conditioning? Do they provide good daily meals? What about a laundry room? Well, these are just a few of the questions you should ask on the first day. Because hey, the reason why you’re choosing a PG over a independent flat or room is due to the amenities, right? Yep. So don’t you compromise on your basic needs. Or else, while your grumpy prof is taking away your sanity with a million assignments, a loud screaming PG aunty will make you even more furious by shutting off your complaints.

Does the PG Have Effective Security Measures?

Some PGs have a security guard on duty round the clock, while others have only a night watchman that sleeps like a baby the moment the clock hits 12. Now, even a competent security guard is well and good, but really? What year is it? 1993? Because in modern co-living PGs like Stanza Living, we do more than just station a guard at the main gat.

In fact, we’ve got a tech-enabled security framework that includes complete CCTV monitoring, digital check-ins and check-outs, and smart locks. Plus, our campuses are secured with proper boundaries and on-surveillance entry and exit points. So there’s that too.

Is There a Curfew?

You might be surprised by the number of restrictions placed on tenants living in a PG. Some PGs have curfews for their tenants, meaning they must be inside their rooms after a certain time. Other PGs restrict the number of guests who can visit. Basically, what we’re trying to say is there is a fine line between providing you security and curbing your freedom. So make sure to check all the house rules before moving in. So your four walls and a roof don’t seem like they belong to a prison. Or worse, a regressive household.

How Safe is the Neighborhood?

If you’re moving to a PG, you should consider the safety of your new neighborhood. Is it in an area with a lot of shady business going around? Are there frequent car break-ins? Does it seem like someone is always getting mugged or robbed? Well, if the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, then those are giant red flags you should definitely avoid.

On top of that, even if the neighbourhood doesn’t have any of these things, it doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. We mean, don’t get into a locality that’s in the middle of nowhere. Because in the case of emergencies or any unsavoury incident, there should be a hospital and a police station nearby for sure.

Is the Place Well-Connected?

When you’re moving to a new place, one of the important things you should think about is how easy it will be to get around from there. For starters, ask yourself questions like these. Is the place well-connected by public transport? Is there a bus or a metro station nearby? Is it the kind of area where autos are hard to get? And plenty more questions that’ll help you understand if your daily commute will be smooth and easy. Because the last thing you need is to stay at a place so disconnected that you get exhausted by the time you reach college.

Is the PG Hygienic and Well-Maintained?

This is a big one. You don’t want to move into a place that doesn’t maintain its hygiene standards. So when you head to a PG for a visit, don’t hesitate to check every nook and corner before you decide to move in. Because hey, hygiene doesn’t only mean a messy floor area or spider webs on the ceiling. It can also mean hidden molds behind the cupboard or dirty seepage leaking from under the toilet.

Will My Roommate and I get Along?

So here’s the thing, we don’t know. Because every person is different and they might or might not end up being a compatible roomie. For that, you should always set boundaries with your roomie on the first day itself. Both of you can make a list of Do’s and Don’ts for each other, and then sit down to negotiate on them. After that, it’s all about respecting each other.
