Yarada Beach, Yarada

The Yarada Beach is the most happening beach in Vizag. If you’re just settling in Vizag, this is the beach you can start your exploration with. And don’t forget to apply some sunscreen before you head out. Clearly, it’s one of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam with your friends (Coz ‘Yaar’ ada, no?)

Kailasagiri, Hill Top Road

Most cities have hills a 2 or 3 hour road trip away. But the Kailasagiri is a hill situated in the heart of Visakhapatnam. It offers jaw-dropping views of the lush forests, the pretty beaches and the magnificent city.

Borra Caves, Araku Valley

The Borra caves are one of the longest caves in the country i.e. one of the easiest to get lost in. Just kidding. There’s plenty of natural light filtering in, so you can find your way around. In fact, the light reflecting against the karstic limestone formations is stunning. So yes, there’s definitely some light at the end of this tunnel!

Matsyadarshini Aquarium, Pandurangapuram

The popular Aquarium is located on the Ramakrishna beach. It features both freshwater and saltwater fishes. It’s a great place to visit if you’re interested in marine life. And even if you’re not. The entry fee is just 30 bucks, dude.

Simhachalam Temple, Simhachalam

Vizag is obviously famous for its temples. And the Simhachalam temple is definitely one of them. So it might not be one of the hidden places in Vizag, but each time you visit, you will be stunned. Probably by the number of elephant idols there (honestly, there are like, fifty bazillion of them).

Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Yendada

This Zoological park is the third largest zoo in the country. That itself is a reason for you and your roomie to visit it. Over here, you’ll see over a hundred species of mammals, birds and reptiles. And one rare breed of apes – your roommate.

Vuda Park, Jalari Peta

The Vuda Park is spread over 37 acres and it features fitness centres, food stalls and playing areas. Vuda Park is a jogger’s paradise. It gets so crowded in the morning, it’ll be like playing bumper cars. But with your fellow joggers.

Katiki Waterfalls, Araku Valley

Located in Araku Valley, about 90 kms from the city, the Katiki waterfalls is among the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam for 2 days. Especially if you plan to camp with your flatmates. And FYI, there are no growling wild bears nearby. But maybe, you’ll find some noisy tourists.

Dolphin’s Nose, Gangavaram Port

Dolphin’s nose is one of the most popular viewpoints in Visakhapatnam, and is situated by the beach. But as you’re catching a glimpse of the dolphin, don’t fall prey to the sharks near the shore. They swim pretty close at night.

Rishikonda Beach, Bheemili

This famous beach lies beside the Rishikonda hills, and is popularly known as the ‘Jewel of East Coast’. Moreover, it’s one of the most romantic places in Vizag. Once you take a long walk along the coastline with your jewel of a partner, you’ll see why.

Bheemili Beach, Beach Road

The 17th century forts and cemeteries by the Bheemili beach are a flashback to the Dutch era. This makes it a sweet escape from the bustling city. And also the closest thing you’ll experience to time travel.

Araku Valley, Araku

The Araku Valley is one of the best tourist places near Vizag within 100kms. Mostly because of the coffee plantations and greenery all around. This is a hotspot for photographers. Seriously. Sometimes, you can spot more DSLRs than plants and trees.

Sea War Memorial, Pedda Waltair

The monument was built in 1996 in honour of the Indian Navy. The complex houses a pyre that is always lit up in respect to the martyrs. After walking out of the memorial, you can grab a quick bite in Beach road or just run up to the beach opposite to it.

Lawson’s Bay Beach, Beach Road

Most beaches in Vizag are crowded. However, Lawson’s Bay beach is somewhat secluded. In other words, you won’t find any wannabe influencers trying to capture the perfect #beachselfie here. This makes it one of the best hidden places in Vizag.

Gangavaram Beach, Gangavaram Port

Coconut trees are a common sight in Vizag beaches. But not every beach has pretty palm trees amidst golden sands, like this one does. The palm trees offer another advantage – you can rest in their shade without worrying about a coconut landing on your head.

Ramakrishna Beach, Beach Road

Remember Dolphin’s nose? The Ramakrishna beach is located nearby. Owing to its peaceful environment, the beach is often crowded with people who are into yoga and meditation. And if yoga doesn’t really cut it for you, you just do the sit back and relax with some coconut water asana!

Submarine Museum, Pandurangapuram

The Submarine Museum is one of the hidden places in Vizag. Believe it or not, the museum lies inside an actual submarine – INS Kurusura. When you visit this place, you’ll be fascinated by the lives and pictures of warriors that fought underwater. And don’t worry, the submarine is permanently stationed on land.

Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary is an abode for wildlife enthusiasts. It belonged to the Maharaja till 1970. Since then it’s been managed by the forest department. It is home to several endangered species like the Indian leopard, Russel’s viper and Indian Muntjac. And the abundant species of people looking for getaway places to visit outside Vizag.

Visakha Museum, Pedda Waltair

If you want to learn about the history of Vizag, you should visit the Visakha Museum. The museum houses galleries that document coastal life and features rare exhibits. Also, there’s a 250 LB bomb from World War II that did not explode after being dropped by Japan. Clearly, one of the most ‘explosive’ members of this list of places to visit in Vizag!

Bojjannakonda, Rebaka

Bojjannakonda is a series of 6 rock carved caves. Dedicated to Lord Buddha, you can head there to experience tranquility amidst nature. But we suggest you pack some food along. There are no eateries nearby. And you don’t want the tranquility to be disturbed by your grumbling tummy.

Rose Hill Church, Vizag Port

This is one of the best places to visit in Vizag at night. As the sun sets, the church is lit up with candles and becomes a pretty sight for sore eyes. So if it’s the night before a big exam and you’re yet to open your books, you know where to come to pray.

Sagar Nagar Beach, Beach Road

Hey, guess what? It’s another popular beach along the beach road lol. But no, on a serious note, Sagar Nagar is more than just sand and the sea. It also offers boating and paragliding. If you’re tired of hurting your back working from home, it’s time to stretch your muscles and head out to this beach!

Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex, Thotlakonda

Buddhist monasteries have always been the most zen spots. But this one is situated on a hillock. That makes Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex the zenest of zen spots. And a sure shot name on the list of the best places to visit in Visakhapatnam!

Mudasarlova Park, Hanumanthavaka

The park is located beside the Mudasarlova reservoir. This is where most of Vizag’s drinking water comes from. So perhaps, a picnic at this place will quench your ‘thirst’ for a weekend getaway.

TU 142 Aircraft Museum, Pandurangapuram

The museum archives India’s military history and features equipment such as anti-submarine missiles and sonar devices. It also has a real Tupolev TU-142 that served the Indian Air Force until 1917. Don’t know what that is? Lol neither do we. But it sounds really cool and demands a visit, don’t you think?
