Libraries in Delhi

If you’re searching for a public library in Delhi, we salute you. Because you’re part of a dying breed. In the age of information technology, you prefer to go hunting for your information without the help of technology. You like to spend a few hours in the quiet of a library in Delhi. Maybe it’s to study. Maybe it’s to escape into the lives of your favourite characters. Or maybe it’s just because you like to be in a place where you’re surrounded by books.

Now, just because finding library lovers like yourself is hard, finding the best library in Delhi for you shouldn’t be. Because we’re here to help, no matter how rare your interests are. Best Libraries in Delhi

Surely, these are the best libraries in Delhi:

Looking for a place where you get all the time to spend with your favourite authors?

Check our residences in Delhi

American Library, Kasturba Gandhi Marg

The American Library Delhi is a famous place for bibliophiles. It was established to promote understanding between the people of the subcontinent and the United States. You can gather all kinds of info on their society, politics and culture through the collection. A much better alternative than keeping up with the Kardashians and, well, Tiktok.

Sahitya Akademi Library, Rabindra Nagar

Sahitya Akademi is India’s national academy of letters. It was formed to promote Indian literature. So you’ll find a large collection of books in this library. Which includes English literature, linguistic research papers, translation studies, and literary criticism. And nope, posting a fire emoji (or a thumbs down emoji) on your favourite insta poem isn’t literary criticism. It’s an entire subject altogether.

Central Library, IIT Delhi

Another member of this list is the ‘Central Library Delhi’. It boasts a collection of research papers, international journals, and rare books written on science. Although it’s free to use for IIT’s students and faculty members, you’ll need to register as a corporate member to gain access to this library. Which is a bit on the expensive side, but still less than a two-year trip to Kota and admitting yourself to a coaching institute.

Central Secretariat Library, Rajpath Area

This is perhaps the best library in Delhi for quiz buffs and spelling bees. It has a gigantic collection of books on every topic that you can ever imagine. Plus, it’s not only limited to literature. You’ll also find all sorts of encyclopedias and, well, dictionaries. To be honest, we can imagine Shashi Tharoor spending a lot of time here when he was young. Just saying.

Delhi Public Library, Sarojini Nagar

This place is for everyone. Whether you’re a student looking for test papers, or a journalist looking for archived newspapers. Or even a doctor searching for medical books. Plus, you can access the library for free. But though it’s commonly known as the National Library, Delhi residents are the only ones who can be a member. Now, that’s a bummer. For a ‘national’ library, it’s rather exclusive.

Nehru Memorial Museum & Library, Chanakyapuri

Well, it doesn’t get more old-school than spending your time reading at this library. Because no, they don’t have any online forms, or pre-ordered editions, or even an enthusiastic librarian showing you around. But since it’s a museum too, it’s a soothing place to read. Or to do – what we all do best – pretend to find ‘a deeper meaning’ behind every piece of artifact in a museum.

The Japan Foundation Library, Lajpat Nagar IV

If you’re into anime or manga, then you’ll start beating yourself up for not knowing about this place earlier. They have a large collection of Manga. On top of that, it features an audio-visual library too. And nope, we know what you’re thinking. You can’t do a Naruto rerun on their projector for sure. But then their anime merch would more than makeup for it.
