First thing’s kinda obvious. Minimalism is the way to go about small space living. And nope, we’re not really talking about the decor here. It’s more about only purchasing items that you need and serve a functional purpose. But mostly, it’s about controlling the urge not to hoard stuff. So yea, that’s what minimalism is really about, letting go. Especially things like pretty packaging boxes that you don’t even use. So you don’t have to think out of the box if you don’t box yourself up in the first place, you know. Thanks for coming to our Ted Talk, hehe.
We know one day, somewhere deep down, we all want to ignore everything else, color our entire place black, live on cheat meals, and play the loudest woofers. But until that day comes, say a big NO to black, rani pink, and papaya orange. Go for whites, neutrals, earthy, and pastels instead. It’s just science. White makes a space look larger. Why do you think most office spaces are white? Because it lessens the blow of your horrible boss’s attempt to make you feel more and more claustrophobic.
Nope, we don’t mean you adopt a baby. We just mean add plants. You can either do a mini jungle theme by clubbing a lot of small size pots together. Or you can take a few and place ’em on your favorite spots. But most importantly, place a house plant on the places which you think look cluttered. And for folks who live in Delhi, house plants will make you feel less like you’re breathing air that smells like a hot iron.
Okay, okay, some of you might have a weird feeling about having too many mirrors. But if you’re open to the idea, adding different-sized mirrors will make you perceive your small living room – or bedroom – as larger than it actually is. Plus, there are the added bonuses. One, hashtag mirror selfies. And two, you can side glance at the mirrors and keep checking yourself out. Like you do with parked car windows while walking on a street.
You gotta love a sofa bed when you live in a small space. And every other piece of furniture that multitasks. And manages 2-3 part-time jobs to pay up their student loans. And that is an appropriate metaphor for you too. Just make economical furniture choices until you scoop up more savings and ditch ’em later for anything you want, really. Basically, here’s the life lesson: don’t let your workplace make you work on things you didn’t sign up for. They can just hire more people. If they can’t, not your problem, bruh.
The worst thing about a small space is that it can feel very closed. So instead of putting your tables and centerpieces at the center, put them in the corner. Then decorate those corners well, and your space shall start feeling more open. If not anything, it’ll save your baby toe from crashing on stuff. Baby toe: 1 Furniture legs: 0.
Last, but definitely not least, everything mentioned above won’t work if you don’t keep things tidied up. Now, we know that’s easier said than done. But with the help of organizing drawers, setting reminders, and making use of your Google calendar, you should be good.
And that’s about it. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Coz then you can squeeze them and throw them out saving you extra space in your fridge. Got it?
