Janpath
Where: Near Janpath metro station, off Connaught Place
When: Daily except Sundays
What:This market originated as a handicrafts market for the Tibetan migrants population and has evolved in recent years into a lively place with a lot of offerings. Tibetan and Indian handicrafts are popular here, as are jewellery, leather goods, shoes and brassware. Perfect if you’re looking for home decor or accessories. Or small decorables for your relatives back home to avoid the taunt that you didn’t get them anything.
Sarojini Nagar
Where: Near Safdarjung, South Delhi
When: Daily except Mondays
What: When you talk about the most famous market in Delhi, you’re probably talking about the Sarjoini Nagar market. In the street shopper’s paradise, there’s nothing that you won’t be able to find. From clothes to accessories to footwear, there are lots – we mean LOTS – of shops that will offer you items no matter your budget. Just don’t forget to practice your bargaining skills – and ask your mum for advice – before you head here.
Dilli Haat
Where: Opposite INA market, South Delhi.
When: Daily
What: Despite being in the centre of the city, stepping into Dilli Haat will make you feel like you’re entering a village bazaar. Given this open-air market celebrates the traditional heritage and culture of the different states of India. Here, you can pick up handicrafts and artefacts, as well as enjoy food and cultural performances from different parts of the country.
Paharganj
Where: Opposite New Delhi Railway Station, Central Delhi
When: Daily
What: The market at Paharganj may be old but the items on sale definitely aren’t. This is a huge wholesale market where you can pick up items from export surplus at very reasonable prices. Clothes, bags and shoes can all be purchased at great rates here, but we also have to give a special mention to the incense sticks that are sold in the area. Make sure you give them a try. To boil it down, going to Paharganj is like going to a touristy market in a hill station. Without booking a ticket on Redbus.
Chandni Chowk
Where: Old Delhi
When: Daily except Sundays.
What: Possibly the oldest of the Delhi shopping markets, Chandi Chowk is a classic that must be on your list. You have to walk through many old alleyways to get to the different parts of the market but it’s an experience that you’ll definitely want to enjoy. From the fabrics at Katra Neel to the electronics near Bhagirath Palace, there are different sections of the market to cater to all your needs. Make sure you check out the range of silver jewellery and spices which are the most famous here. And of course, don’t forget to try all the famous street food that can be found at Chandni Chowk. Or in Chawri Bazar opposite Jama Masjid.
Khan Market
Where: Near India Gate.
When: Daily except Sundays
What:If you want the experience of a local market without having to compromise on brand quality then Khan Market is the place to be. No bargain hunting goes on here, you’re simply going to find outlets of all the high-end retailers. And along with these branded stores, you’ll find some of the best tailors in the city as well as quite a few book shops. Check out some of the trendy cafes in the area to complete the experience too. We personally recommend Big Chill and SodaBottleOpenerWala.
Lajpat Nagar
Where: Near Defense Colony, South Delhi

What: The central market in Lajpat Nagar is another Delhi classic. Here, you’ll find a lot of great Indian clothing and accessories at very reasonable prices.
